Introducing The Willson Grant, a two-year initiative that supports Somer Valley micro-businesses and organisations in offering FREE arts, active travel, and well-being activities to residents.
The Willson Grant, funded by The Active Way and the West of England Combined Authority and administered by Bath and North East Somerset Council and Bath Spa University, is a testament to the community’s importance. It will support ten community projects over the next eight months, empowering the residents of Somer Valley to transform their community into a hive of activity.

InclusiVfit is a safe, friendly and inclusive group that invites people over 18 and complete beginners to get fit together in readiness for joining a park run. To find out more and to register for their free couch to parkrun sessions in Radstock, head to their website www.inclusivfit.org.
Creative RevolutionHERies from Rockaway Park offer workshops for women in metalwork, woodwork, and welding to create benches and planters for the community across walking and cycling trails around the Somer Valley. Radstock Town Council are producing The Greenway Arts Trail by creating permanent artworks on the Greenway and upcycling existing infrastructure to develop a trail, encouraging you to get out along the greenway for a walk, wheel or cycle. Keep an eye out for the launch of The Greenway Art Trail this coming September.
The Kindness Connection are inviting parents and carers to bring their preschool children along to Bloomfield Care Centre every other Friday to partake in an intergenerational music group hosted by Willow from Sing-a-ling Sing. There will be musical activities and a chance to socialise with the care home residents. Parc Skate School CIC is promoting grassroots skateboarding as an alternative to traditional sports to improve the physical and mental health of our children and young adults. More information is coming soon!
Curiositree is bringing women together in a nurturing, restful outdoor space to reflect and explore through creative activities. Timsbury Street Theatre Workshops by the Natural Theatre Company offer free drop-in creative drama sessions for young people to get stuck into performance, improvisation, costume design, comedy, and filmmaking. These sessions run alongside the Youth Connect Mobile Unit outside Conygre Hall on April 9, 23, 30, May 14, 21, and June 4 from 7-9 pm. No need to book; just turn up for some creative mayhem!
Handweaving with people with learning disabilities and the wider community. Jade from The Handloom Room is visiting supported living homes and community spaces in the Somer Valley to introduce creative weaving activities. In May, there will be workshops available to book in MSN, Radstock and Peasedown St John – keep an eye out on www.thehandloomroom.co.uk.
Creative Roots outdoor learning – is bringing a Forest School programme to Radstock, which supports parents and carers of young children aged 18 months and four years old, along with a Wild Dads group for dads, grandads and male carers of children aged four and over.
